About us

Easy German originally started as a passion project by Janusz and Cari in Münster, Germany. In 2014, Janusz and Cari decided to move to Berlin to transform Easy German into something more than just a hobby. Fast forward 10 years, this YouTube channel evolved into a full-time job for a team of more than ten people. Our journey has led us to create and publish hundreds of videos and podcast episodes, touching the lives of millions of people around the world. It also led us to partner with a network of franchisees, expanding the Easy German model into multiple other languages.

Our Story

Easy German started in a school.

In 2005, a group of high school students in Münster created the very first Easy German video during a media workshop led by Janusz. The video was meant as a private gift for two students from Vietnam who were learning German at the time (you can hear Simon greet “Thy and Trang” in the introduction). About a year later, Janusz heard about a new website called YouTube and decided to upload the video there. Little did he know it would eventually be seen by almost 2 million people.

Today, we’ve come full circle: Our videos and learning materials are used by teachers and educators around the world and we regularly collaborate with schools, visiting classrooms and organizing language and media workshops.

We’re part of something bigger.

It all began with Easy German, but throughout the years our idea has expanded into a partner network that today includes over 30 languages. Besides making language learning fun and engaging, our mission is to promote intercultural exchange and understanding. Today, almost 5 million people subscribe to our channels and our videos have been watched more than 400 million times.
